In SAH Opportunities: Call for Papers: SAH Women in Architecture AG panel “Inspired by History to Form the Future” at the “Architectural Intelligence” Conference of the AIA SV Chapter’s WIA Committee, Sep. 2021

SAH Women in Architecture AG has been invited by the Women in Architecture (WIA) Committee of AIA Silicon Valley Chapter of The American Institute of Architects, to present a panel, “Inspired by History to Form the Future” at the “Architectural Intelligence” Conference, planned in September of 2021. Past conferences of this series contributed to a better understanding of architectural history, with a particular eye on gender as the emissary of change in the approach to contemporary design, and have featured speakers presenting on the topics of sustainability, equity, and innovation.

Among the narratives that emerge from evaluations of historic gender roles in architecture and design are those reflecting on the research guidelines employed by the investigators and scholars. In seeking to uncover veiled stories of exceptional records, historians are the first to question assumptions and transform dominant agendas. The SAH WiA Center invites papers that would discuss how the recent research has changed the way scholars now examine women’s contribution to profession, and how women who practice architecture around the world continue to change the face of the discipline. We welcome presentations that, through the prism of gender studies, address the gap between the critical misconceptions, and recognize the past and present accomplishments and women’s  leadership as the fertile foundation for writing inclusive histories and encompassing the future.
