Letter from the SAH WiA AG Chair

December 21, 2020

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Thank you for your participation and engagement!

This year has challenged everyone personally and has tragically impacted our lives. However, the first steps of the SAH WiA community have proved our amazing potential. Our membership directory is growing, our SAH WiA AG Bylaws and the Logo identity are in place, and the Officers of the SAH WiA Center elected by you this September, are contributing their time and talent to the groundwork for our many projects.

Our Communications/Media team is meeting biweekly, and we have developed and are maintaining SAH WiA communication platforms and social media pages to serve our members and provide you with information, share interests and initiatives, collaborate, place updates and opportunities. Everyone is welcome to participate!

We established the new SAH WiA group Registers Committee tasked to develop a structured database of archives, libraries, museums, other centers collecting women’s work; networks of likeminded organizations; and to catalogue bibliographies uncovering women’s inclusive and diverse contribution to the built environment across borders and disciplines.

We initiated a range of collaborative projects and will celebrate Women’s History Month in March of 2021: on schedule are our two SAH CONNECTS webinars in collaboration with WiA AIA Silicon Valley and with SAHGB’s Women Architectural Historians’ Network (UK), and participation in Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon WiA. Please stay tuned!

We have also proposed a SAH WiA AG Roundtable for the 2021 SAH Post-Conference Virtual Program. Among our projects is the initiative to integrate collaborative online efforts between SAH WiA AG, SAHARA, SAH Archipedia, and BWAF.

My sincere gratitude goes to the SAH Board and to our SAH WiA group Leadership Team—our plans would not have been possible without incredible contribution by these scholars: Advising Chair Annmarie Adams, Associate Chair Shelley E. Roff, Interim Associate Chair Kathryn E. O’Rourke, Web Administrator Rebecca Siefert, Associate Web Administrator Franca Trubiano, Secretary-Treasurer Julia Walker, Acting Secretary-Treasurer Margaret B. Vickery, Communications Officer Danielle S. Willkens, and Associate Communications Officer Priya Jain.

Happy Holidays to all, and best wishes for 2021!
Stay safe,

Anna Sokolina
