Letter from the SAH WiA AG Chair

March 1, 2021

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It’s a privilege for me to extend greetings to our community on the first day of Women’s History Month.

Our Program March 2021: SAH WiA AG Celebrating Women’s History Month is commencing today. It is supported by the Society of Architectural Historians—please join us!

First SAH CONNECTS Webinar, “The Advent of Women Architectural Professionals, a US-UK Comparative Perspective,” March 8, 2021, 12:00–1:30pm CST, is scheduled to commemorate the International Women’s Day. Organized by Shelley E. Roff, SAH WiA AG Associate Chair, and Elizabeth Darling, Convener of the WAHN, SAHGB, and sponsored by SAH Women in Architecture Affiliate Group and SAHGB Women’s Architectural Historians’ Network (UK), it is a powerful evidence of international collaboration. Second SAH CONNECTS Webinar, “New Histories and New Practices,” March 25, 2021, 10:00–11:30am CST, is organized by Kathryn O’Rourke, SAH WiA AG Member, and Dasha Ortenberg, Chair of WIA Committee at AIA SVC. Sponsored by SAH Women in Architecture Affiliate Group, and Women in Architecture (WIA) Committee of AIA Silicon Valley, a chapter of The American Institute of Architects, it conveys a far-reaching potential for an inclusive national collaboration. The Website Launch of the new SAH WiA AG Registers Committee is scheduled in March, linked to our official site, SAH Women in Architecture Affiliate Group (hcommons.org)—my collaboration with Rebecca Siefert, SAH WiA AG Web Administrator, Barbara Ann Opar, the Registers Committee Co-Chair, and with all Committee Members is a true delight. The Committee is tasked to develop a structured trifold database of 1/archives, libraries, museums, other centers collecting women’s work; 2/bibliographies uncovering women’s inclusive and diverse contributions to the built environment; 3/networks of likeminded organizations. This is a long-term project, please reach out and contribute.

We also participate in the Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon Women in Architecture project.  Danielle S. Wilkens, SAH WiA AG Communications Officer, leads this initiative.

Our Communications/Media Team has created and is maintaining communication platforms and media pages on SAH Commons, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter—please follow us!

Be well and safe,

Anna Sokolina
